Bomb disposal experts were called to a remote part of the coast when a shell was discovered.

Coastguards were called to Rodden Point, on the Fleet, at around 7.30pm on Friday. The team found what looked like a heavily rusted shell.

A spokesman for Wyke Regis Coastguard said: "Photos of the suspect object were passed to EOD (Bomb Disposal) through the NMOC, who believed it was old three-inch shell. With night drawing in, EOD agreed to attend at first light to investigate further. The team then marked the object and secured the area ready for EOD's arrival."

At 6am this morning, the bomb disposal team attended the scene to assess the shell. They confirmed it was a three-inch shell and x-rayed the object. It was classified as safe and removed from the area.
