A runner took on a 15-mile challenge – with 15 dares thrown in for good measure.

Debbie Moore is fundraising for Leonard Cheshire and has a place in the London Marathon 2019. She chose the challenge to honour Terry Clarke, who died in November last year after a long battle with Parkinson’s and dementia aged just 58.

Debbie helped care for Terry through her job, and would regularly take him out to events.

A runner with Royal Manor of Portland AC, she has pledged to raise £1,800 in his memory.

On Saturday she ran 15 miles as part of her fundraising, with a different challenge for each mile. These included running with a cow bell around her neck, dancing to cheesy music, carrying an inflatable flamingo, carrying a pint without spilling it, doing seagull impressions and eating a whole birthday cake.

She has already raised more than £1,000 towards her fundraising total.

Debbie described Terry as a ‘proper character’, who loved acting, socialising and was always complimenting people.

Writing on her fundraising page, she said: “I used to take Terry to enable him to participate in local events, such as the DCHFT walk for wards which he enjoyed year after year. He also enjoyed watching races, at one event the Larmer 10 and half marathon back in March 2017. He stood there at the finishing line with a massive smile on his face and cheered on all the runners. At that particular event at the end he turned around to me and said ‘Debbie one day, we will do London’.”

Debbie added that, while she told Terry they would do so, it was only after his death that she decided to commit to her word.

She chose Leonard Cheshire to fundraise for because of their ‘amazing work’ in helping to support people like Terry to live life with all the opportunities possible, as well as raising awareness of the illnesses Terry suffered from.

She added: “I miss Terry everyday but I’m so blessed to have worked with him for five years that I did.”
