WEYMOUTH Lifeboat Week continued with a paddle on a beautiful evening.

The Stand-Up Paddleboard event held at Ferrybridge on Tuesday and organised by Weymouth Water Sports saw teams of up to 10 racing over a short course in a relay race.

There were races for single and multi boards.

After a fiercely fought race the RNLI Beach Lifeguards narrowly beat the RNLI Lifeboat crew in the single board, while the Who’s Afear’d of the Chesil Beach Peaches (a team of women from Bridport) beat a coastguard team in the multi board race.

The event was first held last year and was such a success it was decided to make it an annual competition for lifeboat week.

There was another display by the lifeboats and coastguards at Bowleaze Cove last night.

Today, a crabbing competition will be held on the lifeboat station side of the harbour, 2pm-4pm.

Prizes will be awarded for the largest number of crabs caught, the biggest crab and the crab with the most barnacles. The event is organised by Billy Short from Weymouth Angling Club.

After the competition a night of folk music will be held at Pilgrim House in Hope Square. It will feature Doc Clarks Remedy, Gregory Schofield and the Two Peas; music from 7.30pm until 11pm. Tickets are limited and cost £7 and are only available from Teresa on 07917 163459 or Dave on 07789 270934.

Tomorrow there will be a sandcastle competition on Weymouth Beach opposite Rossi's Ice Cream Parlour. The event runs from 1pm to 3pm with judging being carried out by Weymouth's own Sandman - Mark Anderson.

On the final day - Saturday - from 10.30am until 4pm, the Weymouth all-weather and inshore lifeboats are open to the public to look around. The volunteer crew will also be on hand to talk to.

Lifeboat week is the main Weymouth RNLI fundraising week with a fun packed week with something for all the family.
