A drop-in event to discuss proposed changes to the Local Plan is being held at Preston Village Hall next Wednesday, August 8 from 4pm until 7pm.

The special meeting has been arranged partially for those who would like to hear more about the plans for around 100 homes, possibly more, on the Southdown Ridge site off Wyke Oliver Close.

Residents there have started campaigning against the use of the site which they say suffers from landslip and is usually wet – even during the current drought, mainly because of rising springs.

Wey Valley councillor Tony Ferrari says officers from the planning department will be on hand for the three hours: “ It is a pop in event, you don't have to come for the whole time.

“This is in preparation for the formal consultation on the plan which starts on August 13. I understand there will be forms at the event where you can fill in your comments on the day, alternatively you will be able to write or email once the consultation starts.”

Contact cards with the web link to the consultation will be available at the event.

Said a council spokesman: “Ideally we’d like comments online or by email, but if people visiting the event want to fill in a consultation form there and then and hand it in, that would be fine.”
