This weekend sees the return of a popular (and inclusive) festival.

The Dorset One World Festival returns to Dorchester Borough Gardens on Saturday.

This year marks the ninth year of the festival, designed to celebrate the diversity of cultures in Dorset through music, dance, food, activities and games.

The festival is aimed at improving understanding of other cultures in Dorset with a programme of both traditional and modern cultural activities performed by the communities in Dorset and further afield.

It was started in 2009 by a group of friends of Bangladeshi-born Khalique Miah, who was racially abused in Dorchester.

A small group worked together to arrange the first festival, bringing different cultures together through sport, food, music and dance. Since then, the festival has taken place annually in the Borough Gardens and has been attended by thousands of Dorset residents, and sometimes people from further afield, who come together to appreciate and celebrate food, music, dance and arts from different cultures.

As always, the Global Food Village will return this year and provide a wide selection of fresh food and drinks from, Italy, India, Africa, Thailand and a new type of ice-creams.

This year, organisers have returned to its one main stage with a host of performers who will involve the public in their performances, so be willing to dance, sing and play music!

The children will also be well catered for with a bouncy castle, arts and crafts workshop that will culminate by a children parade and a whole range of sports available.

This year was the first year there were insufficient funds for the festival and therefore a crowdfunding page was launched which manage to raise £635 towards the costs.

If you wanted to donate, but missed the first opportunity you can still donate online at localgiving.org/charity/dorsetoneworldfestival/

Nathalie Sherring, co-ordinator of the festival, said: "We hope that residents and visitors come and enjoy the festival and experience a fun, friendly and culturally enriching day."

The free festival will run from 11am until 5pm on Saturday.
