Crews of firefighters worked together to put out a large fire, involving 100 tonnes of straw
The incident took place at around 10.15pm last night off the Old Sherborne Road.
Crews from Maiden Newton and Dorchester attended the scene.
A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Once in attendance crews found over 100 tonnes of stacked bailed straw well alight. The fire had also spread and was burning across the stubble in the field, with embers also being carried by the wind towards other unaffected fields of corn.”
It wasn’t until the early hours of this morning that the blaze was fully extinguished.
The spokesman added: “Using a water carrier from Yeovil and farm machinery, crews worked until approximately 3am to fully extinguish the blaze using four main lines and beaters.”
