Further to your article about the scandal of student exclusion in Dorset, I want to express my gratitude to the Prince’s Trust at Weymouth College.
I have been working with them for a few years in helping the students prepare for their final presentation.
Trevor Allison and Lilly Markwell do an incredible job over a 12-week period helping excluded students rebuild their self confidence and get them back on track.
Listening to the students’ stories of where they have come from and what they have achieved is a very humbling experience. It proves to me that these young people have an amazing potential if they are given the right environment to express it. They deserve a second chance.
I believe we all have a responsibility, as parents, teachers and society to provide a better starting point for their future.
If we don’t spend the time and effort at these early stages, we, and more importantly the young people, will pay the price later.
