WEYMOUTH Thundercats racer Richard Fabbri came fifth in the Thundercats Championship in his own imported boat called X-cat.

The event was held at the Animal Windfest event at Sandbanks Beach, Poole.

This was only the second time Fabbri, 38, and team member Rene Lawson, who is a teacher at Budmouth Technolgy College, had raced competitively.

He said: "The event was pretty impressive as we ended up coming in fifth overall.

"I import my own brand of boat and this is only the second time we have raced it.

"The nature of Thundercats racing is incredibly rough but we hung in there and were really fortunate.

"It was good to beat some of the old boys to come in fifth."

The three days of Windfest saw an estimated 10,000 people flocking to the beach to enjoy the sun, with the added benefit of wakeboarding and bike displays and stalls along the promenade.

The Animal Party on Saturday night was a sell-out event with live music and DJs entertaining 1,500 in a specially decorated marquee.

The final day saw some good winds that got everyone out on the water for the windsurfing and kitesurfing competitions. A total of 150 competitors took part in the whole event.
