LIB Dem MP Lembit Opik and Gabriela Irimia, his Cheeky Girl partner, will be taking to the stage in Bridport tonight.

The dazzling duo will be at the Electric Palace in South Street for a celebration by Dorset Liberal Democrats at the end of the party's 2007 conference.

And they will be joining Bridport Town Councillor and musician Ros Kayes on stage for what an Electric Palace spokesman called a musical jamboree'.

Opik is the MP for Montgomeryshire. A regular on TV panel shows including have I Got News for You, he hit the headlines last year when he split with his long-term fiancee, the weather girl Sian Lloyd, and started dating Irimia, one half of the Cheeky Girl duo who hit the charts with the memorable song The Cheeky Song (Touch my Bum).

The Cheeky Girls themselves are no strangers to Dorset. In 2003 they took part in the BBC's Children In Need extravaganza and performed to a crowd of hundreds on Weymouth beach.

They also sang at the Wessex Stadium as one of Weymouth Football Club's summer musical spectaculars. Tickets for tonight's Electric Palace event cost £25 for a sit-down meal and entertainment, starting at 6pm and £10 for the entertainment, which starts at 8pm.

As well as providing the musical entertainment, Lembit will give an after-dinner speech and take questions from the floor.
