CHILDREN'S gymnastic abilities will come under scrutiny thanks to a new piece of school equipment.

A top-of-the-range camcorder was handed to Frome Valley First School in Crossways, Dorchester by South Dorset MP Jim Knight.

The camcorder was donated to the school after pupils and parents collected 13,600 'computers for schools' vouchers from Tesco stores.

Nicola Ashby, the school's information and communication technology co-ordinator, said: "The children can use this when they go away on field trips. We could also use it, for example, in PE classes. If the children do a forward roll we can record it and replay it straight away to show them where they're going wrong."

The school was also given encyclopaedias on CD-ROM.

Mr Knight said: "More than 60,000 computers have been supplied to schools in the 16 years that Tesco's 'computers for schools' scheme has been running.

"I am sure the pupils will make great use of their new equipment."
