The amount of lorries getting stuck under the bridge at the Ridgeway seems to be getting worse. Perhaps a solution would be as follows.

Put up two poles on the upper and lower sides of the bridge with a wire across the road.

If a lorry touched it it would give off an audible-visual alarm, or even a infra red beam.

If this is too complicated for British Rail or the Highways Department, a simple board at the same height of the bridge would do the job.

If that was ever broken by a lorry the driver would know his truck was too high.

I'm sure the transport firms would rather pay for a new bit of board than the compensation requested from British Rail for delays and disruption.

This could be put before the hairpin giving the driver a chance to take alternative action.
