HAPPILY married Frank and Jenny Newton took gold at the Portland's Olympic sailing venue.

They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary - 50 years - with a party at the Spinnakers Restaurant in the sailing academy at Osprey Quay.

The party was attended by many people who have been involved with Frank and Jenny on race management.

Guests from Silverstone in Northampton, where Frank was the official race doctor until very recently, also attended.

Jim Saltanstall represented the Royal Yachting Association and friends from Frank's involvement with British Athletics also joined in the fun.

Frank and Jenny have travelled the world supporting numerous athletics events over the past 20 years. Frank is a founding director of the sailing academy and has been actively involved in the development of the worldclass sailing facility in the area for more than 30 years, from the very beginning when the planned site was where the current Pavilion developments are taking place.

He is a renowned International race officer and has officiated as principal race officer for many major international and national championships over the years including the British Olympic Trials in 1996, Finn Gold Cup in 2000, 29er World Championships 2006 and the SB3 European Championships 2007.

He has contributed hugely to the sailing world, not just in Dorset but also throughout the UK and worldwide. The RYA paid tribute to this in 1996 by awarding him the RYA Award for Distinguished Services to Yachting - one of the institution's highest accolades.
