EMERGENCY services are currently at the scene of a dramatic car fire on the A37 on a route into Dorchester.

An eyewitness at the scene has described how the car exploded and burst into flames in a layby on the A37 Dorchester Road near Prowles Cross, just over the county border.

Eyewitness Keeley Bennet said: "A car has just exploded and is on fire.

"There’s no queue of traffic - my partner got out and stopped cars going down by the junction.

"The family was stood about 20 metres away from the car waiting for the fire engines."

There are now two fire engines reported to be at the scene.
