MEMORIES of Dorchester's historic Borough Gardens have been brought together in a new book.

Friends of the Borough Gardens, led by Lorna Low, called on people to send in their memories for the book marking the almost £1 million revamp.

Ms Low said that a lot of people had happy memories of the gardens which is why they decided to compile the book.

"The response was fantastic and many of the people are here today."

One of those who shared her memories for the book was Nora Stone, 82.

She said she remembered that her and her friends would meet boys from the grammar school in the gardens after church.

"They'd walk one way to the gardens and we would walk another and as we passed they would shout out names of streets and areas where they would be walking that afternoon so we could go and meet them," said Mrs Stone.

The book was launched at a special tea party in the refurbished Borough Gardens House.

Copies of the book are available from Dorchester Tourist Information Centre in Antelope Walk.
