CHILD physiotherapist Tess James has retired after helping youngsters for nearly 30 years.
Ms James, 58, started in 1979 at Dorchester's Child Development Unit and was there when it joined as part of the new Children's Centre in Dorset County Hospital in the early 1990s.
She describes integration of physiotherapy and occupational therapy as one of the most memorable moments of her work.
Ms James said that she would miss the job but believed that it was time to move on. She added that the team was well-equipped to carry on their work without her. She said: "They are very skilled. It was time to pass on the battle."
Due to the length of time spent working in Dorchester, Ms James saw many of her patients grow up.
She said: "I have even treated the children of some of the children I originally treated."
Ms James stated that she plans to use her retirement to spend more time on her duties as a town councillor and working on her garden.
