PLANS for a block of eight flats near Weymouth seafront have been turned down by the council's planning committee.
Councillors decided the three-storey development would be too big and would take up the full width of the Westerhall Road site.
They were also concerned the building would have an impact on neighbouring properties Johnstone Court and Windsor Court.
Coun Anne Kenwood said: "I'm concerned about the loss of trees. When going down Dorchester Road these trees are visible. I think a block of flats could be put here but this one would be too big."
Two letters of comment were received about the development but no residents spoke against it at the meeting.
All but four members of the committee refused planning permission, but all members agreed in principle there should be something on the site.
