A SUPER moggy from Beaminster has been named Britain's top cat.

Rocky - a short-haired British Blue - KO'd the opposition to take the title in London.

The National Cat Show at Olympia is the feline world's equivalent of Crufts.

Rocky - show name Mibaybese Rockafella - won all his classes before being judged supreme grand champion.

Proud owner, hairstylist Avis Miller, said it was 'a once in a lifetime achievement'.

"He won everything and we came home with a huge cup," she said. "He is a perfect example of the breed - so well balanced."

This week four-year-old Rocky was feasting on his favourite seafood cocktail, with squid and prawns, and settling in to his new celebrity lifestyle.

He has already been filmed for TV in Russia - where the shorthairs are a favourite breed - and was due to appear with his owner's daughter Chelsea, 12, on Blue Peter on BBC TV last night.

Mrs Miller began showing British Blues around eight years ago, winning several awards - but this is by far her greatest triumph.

"I used to show Bichon Frise dogs but as they got older I decided to go for short-haired cats and tracked down the breed line I wanted," she said. "Rocky's father was UK supreme grand champ.

"Rocky is so good because he fits the standard for the pedigree and is so well balanced. He is just a really good example of the breed and so laid back and complacent - they are very easy-going cats."

After winning the imperial open class at Saturday's show Rocky went on to be named best of breed and then joined the cream of the nation's felines in the grand final before taking the title.

Mrs Miller, who works at the Head Office hair salon in Beaminster, looks after her cats with help from husband Gary, who works for Wessex Water. More details are available on their website at www.visatche-cats.co.uk
