Motorists are being warned that their spooky costume could land them with a driving ban and a hefty £5,000 fine this Halloween.
Millions of Brits will dress as vampires and ghouls as part of the scary celebration but being hit with points on your licence and a fine could be the real shocker.
Experts at motoring association MotorEasy have urged those taking to the roads this October 31 to be wary of what they’re wearing.
Rule 97 of the Highway Code states: “You should ensure clothing and footwear do not prevent you using the controls in the correct manner.”
MotorEasy founder and CEO, Duncan McClure Fisher, said: “This usually applies to things such as flip-flops and narrow skirts. But if your devil hooves or Harley Quinn stilettos affect your ability to safely manoeuvre your vehicle, you could be charged with careless driving and handed a £100 on-the-spot fine.
“And if this careless driving leads to a more serious incident, there is potential for a fine of up to £5,000, nine endorsement points and even a driving ban."
