A 74-YEAR-OLD woman has appeared in court in connection with a crash in Lyme Regis in which a man later died.

Jean Mary Marshall, of Middle Park Road, Birmingham, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates' Court today charged with one count of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

Emergency services were called to Broad Street in the resort on Tuesday, June 29 last year following reports of a collision involving a Ford Fiesta and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian – 88-year-old Arthur Palmer from Bristol – sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital where he died on Sunday, July 4 2021.

Prosecuting Elizabeth Valera, said that on Tuesday, June 29, at around 4.30pm Marshall was pulling out of a car park, turning right, when her car hit Mr Palmer.

She said Mr Palmer was a 'very healthy and fit man' who was in Dorset on holiday and was crossing the road with his wife when he was hit.

Marshall appeared in court via a court video link and entered no plea.

Chair of the bench, Louise Dutton, released Marshall on unconditional bail before her next appearance at Bournemouth Crown Court on July 25.
