A COMMUNITY growing garden will be officially opened at a family fun day.

The fun day will take place at Top Club Field in Littlemoor, Weymouth, on Sunday, August 28 from 1pm to 4pm.

It will be hosted by Weymouth Town Council and Big4Littlemoor and will see residents celebrating the new growing gardens, which will be opened by Weymouth mayor Ann Weaving at 2.30pm.

Some trees have already been planted in the gardens with plans to also incorporate some raised flower beds, a bug hotel and a composting area for the community.

The community event will include live music and entertainment, face painting, a bouncy castle, a tombola, a display of vintage vehicles, a magician, craft sessions and other activities and games. There will also be a raffle in support of the youth club.

There will be information displays and stands at the event, giving people the chance to find out more about Weymouth Town Council services and projects.

Cllr Ann Weaving, Mayor of Weymouth said: “I’m greatly looking forward to attending this fantastic family fun day in Littlemoor on Sunday 28th August and I hope to see the community come out and support this event – it’s sure to be a great day with plenty going on to keep everyone entertained.

“Something that I’m especially looking forward to is opening the growing gardens. This will be a brilliant community asset of great benefit to local people.”

Sasha Knott-Fancy, chairman of Big4Littlemoor, added: “We at Big4Littlemoor are so excited to be doing this family funday with Weymouth Town Council. We are hoping it will be a great success so we can plan many more in the years to come. Please join us to see the great things Big 4 are doing on the estate of Littlemoor.

“We have got amazing plans for the future, come and meet some of our amazing volunteers and find out more about joining us.”
