A care home in Weymouth hosted an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party as part of a weekly community coffee afternoon.

Every Thursday afternoon newly-opened care home Weymouth Manor hosts 'Thursday Tea at 2pm' - a community coffee afternoon between 2pm and 4pm.

To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday, March 6, Weymouth Manor hosted its coffee afternoon as an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party.

Team members and residents dressed up as various characters including Alice, the Cheshire cat, Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter.

Head Chef Simon made illusion cakes - a cake that looks like anything else but a cake, such as beans on toast, mini burgers or mini hot dogs.

Fred, a resident of Weymouth Manor, said: “I had a great time, the staff looked really funny in their costumes and at one point I was wearing a green wig we all had a great time.

"Our chef made us these strange cakes, that were cakes but didn’t look like cakes, it played a funny trick on your mind tasting like cake but looking like beans on toast it was brilliant. I come to coffee afternoon every week and if anyone wants to sit with me and my friends you are more than welcome.”

Thursday coffee afternoons at Weymouth Manor have been growing in popularity, with more members of the local community now attending the weekly event.

Esther Sheppard, sales and marketing Manager, said: “We are really pleased with how successful our Thursday teas at 2pm are.

"Staff and residents, enjoy meeting new people from the community and welcoming them into our home.”

Weymouth Manor, a newly built care home in the Southill area of Weymouth, opened its doors in December 2022 as a residential care home.

The new care home has now recently registered to provide residential and nursing care

The coffee afternoons are hosted every week at Weymouth Manor on Radipole Lane.

It is an informal social event open to anyone who would like to spend an hour or two in a warm environment.
