GET ready to party for a good cause as a popular fundraising event returns to Weymouth.

Gimme Shelter Festival is back at the Belvedere Inn on Saturday, May 13 with another jam-packed line-up of live bands and DJs.

Headlining the day-and-night party will be Bristol ska act Ya Freshness & The Big Boss Band, supported by local bands Bring Me The Pistols, Toxic Fish and host DJ Mr Kiplin. Spinning drum n’ bass until late will be DJs DBOY and Jeztabble.

The event runs from 4pm until midnight costing £5 entry, with all proceeds going to local homeless charity The Bus Shelter Weymouth.

No party would be complete without a good old British barbecue: head into the pub’s garden where you can tuck in to mouth-watering fare for a good cause.

Also helping raise funds on the day will be a charity raffle, and a donation bank for clothing and food items will be in place during the event.

This forthcoming instalment of the long-running fundraiser is being organised by a new member of the Gimme Shelter family, local woman Morgan Brinsley-Plumpton, who is also community fundraiser for The Bus Shelter Weymouth.

Originally founded by local musicians Paul Sharod and Martin Saint, the Gimme Shelter events have raised thousands for local homeless charities over the years, helping support some of the most vulnerable people in Weymouth.

May’s event will continue this important work, with all proceeds donated to The Bus Shelter, which provides accommodation at the park & ride site near Sainsbury’s.

The Bus Shelter has come a long way since starting out with a double decker bus where rough sleepers could stay the night. The charity now offers accommodation in converted shipping containers to house 12 guests, providing drug and alcohol recovery; life skills and a step towards a permanent home.

Ms Brinsley-Plumpton said: “We're looking forward to bringing the community together again to enjoy some fantastic acts for a good cause.”

The Belvedere Inn is located at High West Street, Weymouth.
