LIFEGUARDS and emergency service teams who helped a man during a medical episode have been praised for their efforts.

A man died during a visit to Swanage beach with his wife on Tuesday.

An air ambulance was spotted hovering near King George Playing Field at around 3pm.

Meanwhile, ambulances were parked along the seafront outside Swanage Information Centre.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services and lifeguards, the man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Culvin Milmer, visitor services and business development manager at Swanage Town Council said: “I am sad to report that a gentleman passed away on Swanage beach yesterday afternoon.

“I would like to thank all those people who were involved in trying to help the gentleman and his wife.

“This included a wide range of people, but particular thanks go to the RNLI beach lifeguards who provided a critical first response and to the emergency services who arrived within a few minutes.

“I am proud of Swanage Town Council staff who did everything they possibly could to support all involved.”

A spokesperson for Dorset Police added: "[We] received a request from the ambulance service for assistance with a medical emergency at the Swanage Information Centre.

"Sadly, a man was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin were made aware.

"There were no suspicious circumstances, and the coroner has been notified."
