A Dorset pastry maker says he's sold out of his products after making a guest appearance on TV chef James Martin's Saturday Morning show earlier today.

The director of Crossways-based Dorset Pastry Ltd Mario Barends joined James Martin over Zoom to chat whilst the chef and presenter made cheese straws and palmiers using the company's pastry.

Mr Barends was featured for about 20 minutes on today's programme. It is shown on ITV on Saturdays at 9.30am and can be watched again via the ITV Hub.

Mr Barends was nervous but enjoyed talking to the host on his show.

And he said: "I might not like watching it back but it has been great for us as a business. Our online store has run out of stock.

"Everything we have has gone out in about an hour. I have just got so many emails and people reaching out coming on the show. We are just trying to get everything back in stock."

He said of the interview: "It was good. I was nervous but James and the production crew were brilliant. It was about 20 minutes on the show but we spoke for about 30.

"We talked about the company and how my mum started it 20 years ago.

"We discussed how we use butter and not palm oil and how what we do is very much in the traditional method without additives or preservatives."

Mr Bareends was joined in watching the programme with his family including his mother, who started the company.

Mr Barends added: " My family didn't know what to expect and they were really pleased.

"I would do it again, maybe a bit better prepared after this experience but it has been really positive.

"It is good because it is tough with the cost of living crisis, so this has helped us a good bit."

The company was approached to appear on the show in September shortly after winning three Great Taste Awards. Upon seeing the email from the producer Mr Barends did not expect much to come of it because of previous experience with potential TV appearance offers, but was pleasantly surprised when the producer got back in touch.

Also appearing on the show were TV chef and musician Levi Roots, chef Sally Abe as well and singer and radio presenter Aled Jones.

The episode can be viewed on the streaming service ITVX.
