An online discussion will be held this Thursday to discuss how Dorset can support climate action.

At 7:30pm on Thursday, December 7, Dorset Conference of Parties (COP) organisers will be hosting a virtual talk to explore how the region can support goals put forward by the United Nations in last Thursday’s recent COP28 summit.

The discussion will be hosted by Dr Neil Smith and Mark Chivers of Zero Carbon Dorset (ZCD) evaluating how Dorset can address the issues highlighted in the county COP which took place in early September.

Dorset Echo: The Audience applauding a talk at Dorset COP

The carbon-neutral event was the first-ever community led climate summit, with over 250 people and 100 businesses and organisations gathering in Dorchester hoping to tackle the climate and ecological crises on a local level.

The day centred largely on The Dorchester Declaration and Pledges made by individuals and organisations who attended on the day. These unique promises of climate action were subsequently published on the Dorset COP website.

Mark Chivers of Zero Carbon Dorset said: “The Dorset COP event was just the beginning, now is when the real hard work comes into play, and we must all hold ourselves accountable to the commitment we made in Dorchester to be the change we wish to see in our county.

“We’re looking forward to hosting this online discussion and hearing what the community has to say, we’re hoping it will help to continue to fuel the fire ignited by the county COP.”
