A road is closed after a large diesel spill from an articulated lorry last night.

Firefighters were called to the A350 at Steepleton bends near Stourpaine at around 7pm last night (Wednesday, December 20).

The A350 was closed in both directions in order to be gritted with sand by the local authority.

It remains closed with traffic being diverted via A357 and A30.

Drivers are advised to find alternative routes.

The fire service has warned the road may still be slippery this morning, even when it is reopened.

At around 8pm last night, a spokesperson for Blandford Fire Station said: "We currently have an appliance in attendance at Steepleton bends just outside of Stourpaine dealing with a diesel spill from an articulated lorry.

"The spill is quite significant with lots of fuel across the road, because of this the road has been closed in both directions until the local authority can attend to grit the road with sand.

"Please be careful throughout the night as the road may still be slippery when it reopens."

A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: "The A350 at Steepleton Bends, near Iwerne Minster, is closed due to a diesel spill following an RTC last night.

"A diversion will be put in place today via A357 and A30.

"Please avoid the area for now. More updates to follow.

"Our highways teams are working quickly to get the road reopened as soon as possible."
