An acoustic folk band is set to play two west Dorset concerts in the new year.

Counter’s Creek from London are due to play two shows in February 2024 bringing their set list of original music, which is inspired by the folk music of the British Isles and beyond, including dance grooves from Eastern Europe and West Africa.

The concerts are in collaboration with Artsreach, Dorset’s touring arts charity, with the first show taking place at Winfrith Village Hall at 7.30pm on February 10 and the second on February 11, also starting at 7.30pm at the Wootton Fitzpaine Village Hall.

A spokesperson for Artsreach said: “Featuring Ben Cox (voice/flute/whistles/harmonium), Jonathan Taylor (flute/whistles), Tom Newell (violin/banjo) and Moss Freed (guitar), expect an evening of exciting, uplifting entertainment; virtuoso performances delivered by engaging and witty musicians who convey their passion for contemporary British and Irish folk music in their playing as well as encouraging the audience to join them in sea shanties and 4-part harmony.

“Between them these four musicians have performed at most of the UK’s leading Folk and Jazz festivals, played with pop acts including Muse and One Direction, appeared on TV shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and in numerous stage shows on the West End and around the UK.

“Together their combination of tightly arranged, intricate music with improvisational flair and daring performances will entertain all music-lovers, whilst energetic jigs and reels will make you want to dance the night away.”
