A FOND farewell was bid to a Blandford firefighter who spent 42 years keeping local people safe.
Blandford Fire Station watch manager Phil Thomas has now retired after his final shift on Tuesday, December 20.
Mr Thomas joined the fire service in 1981 at the age of 21 and has served his community ever since.
Several former firefighters who have worked with Mr Thomas over the years gathered at Blandford Fire Station to celebrate his service.
A spokesperson for Blandford Fire Station said: "We would like to thank Phil for the commitment he has given and for the skills he has taught us.
"We would also like to give a big thank you to the ex-firefighters who have worked with Phil over his long career for coming to the station to celebrate Phil’s retirement."
Assistant Chief Fire Officer Andy Cole said: “I’d like to thank Phil, and his family, on behalf of the residents of Blandford and across our wider Service area, for his dedication to keeping them safe.
"42 years in any role is an impressive achievement, but on-call firefighters and their families make a huge commitment to their communities - missing meals, family occasions and other events, to save lives.
"Everyone at Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service wishes Phil a long and happy retirement.”
