• AROUND 200 people of all ages came along during Sunday, July 13, to enjoy a community fun event enjoying the open space on the town green behind St Augustine's School.

There were several stalls, food and a few fun competitions including welly throwing.

A fiddler turned up for a while and at one point several folk joined together in a spontaneous, informal circle dance.

There was a great community atmosphere of celebration, which especially delighted veteran campaigner Joan Horne who has so doggedly persevered in her efforts to continue to keep this space freely accessible for many years, including being very much involved in the process of getting it registered as a town green.

Fund raising continues to finance the community's campaign to keep this as a town green if at all possible.

  • FURTHER comments of the day.

The weather was fantastic and we had a really good Fun Day on the Town Green.

This was a reminder of what Town Greens should be used for everyone enjoying themselves, music in the background, dancing, games, a BBQ and refreshments and the only piece of litter found on the grass after everyone had gone was one raffle ticket.

The Society for the Protection of Markham and Little Francis would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way.

Firstly all those who came along to support the Society, Betterment Properties who unlocked the gate for us, Mitchell Mowers who cut the grass, Cllr. Jean Woodward who provided two ideal party tents, Brian Dawfield (ginge) who provided a superb BBQ.

Ash a professional musician who played his violin to cheer us all, Tref Morgan who provided background music and did a bit of compereing, sacks loaned by Conifers school.

Lastly but by no means least all those who made donations whether on the day or previously, made cakes, manned the stalls, sold tea etc., the peg doll' lady and the face painter all of whom contributed to a lovely day enjoyed by everyone who came.

Hopefully we have not missed anyone out but thank you all once again and hopefully we shall see you all again at our next event.

  • WESTHAM COPS community group funded a coach to the Blue Light Day at Winfrith.

The 57 seater coach was almost full of adults and excited children and it was a great opportunity to enable people who didn't have cars or people who didn't want to drive to attend the event.

It was a great day out and gave people a chance to see the many varied aspects of policing.
