WHICH Dorchester development would you vote for?

The town’s Civic Society is re-instating its design award for exceptional developments in the county town over recent years.

Dorchester town councillors have forwarded their nominations – sixteen supported living homes in Prince of Wales Road adjacent to the Age UK Rowan Cottage centre, and two houses for the Mill Street Housing Association in Holloway Road.

Nominating the Elizabeth Court homes in Prince of Wales Road Cllr Stella Jones said the properties were “wonderful  buildings” fitting in with others in the road.

Cllr Molly Rennie said she liked the Holloway Road homes, which back on to the river, and where the aim had been a good quality build with the use of local companies.

Both developments have been designed to blend in with surrounding buildings and with maximum energy efficiency measures.

The Derek Beauchamp Award, named after a former Dorchester Civic Society chairman, is for developments in the town between June 1st 2017 and the closing date for nominations on May 31st 2024.

The awards stopped during the Covid period with the Society now hoping to make an award every two years.

Anyone can make a nomination for any new buildings, conversions and re-builds; conservation of buildings; shop fronts; tree planting and re-wilding schemes and artistic treatment of neglected sites.

Nominations, with a brief description and ideally also including a photograph, should be sent to the Dorchester Civic Society at Moule House, Trinity Street, Dorchester, DT1 1TT or by email to info@dorchestercivicsociety.org.uk
