A Dorset-based community group received a special visitor.

Blandford Repair Café recently hosted the Mayor of Blandford, Cllr Hugo Mieville.

The mayor spent a whole afternoon at the venue, chatting with repairers and customers alike.

Cllr Mieville said: “It was an absolute pleasure to attend the monthly Repair Café session to see what they do.

“I was given a guided tour of the café by organiser Carole de Saram, and I was very impressed to see the wide range of services - ranging from seamstress skills to electronic wizardry - available to those needing all manner of repairs to household items.

“The lovely café also provides a space where one can relax, drink a cup of tea, and have a chat. I had a lovely afternoon and was very impressed by all that I saw.”

At the monthly Repair Café, people can bring in their broken items to be fixed by a team of volunteers.

The next Repair Café will take place in the Scout Hut on Sunday, March 24, from 1.30pm to 4pm.

During the afternoon a cheque was also presented by Carol to Paul Williams of The Big Yellow Bus, which is based just outside Blandford at Shillingstone.

The Big Yellow Bus Garden Project is run by Eq Health and Wellbeing, a not-for-profit community interest company, offering a community health and wellbeing space for all.
