A shepherd's hut firm from Dorset is returning to this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show with the launch of a 'hot' new product.

Plankbridge, master hut makers based in Piddlehinton, will be taking a new 14ft handcrafted sauna to the prestigious flower show in May, when it returns to Ranelagh Gardens.

Plankbridge founder Richard Lee said: "We’re very excited to be returning to Chelsea for our 12th year running with a design that really showcases the very best of Plankbridge craftsmanship.

"Every inch of the Sauna Snug is built by hand, from the wooden coat pegs down to the door latches, which are made in our own forge over Dorset charcoal. The level of craftsmanship is second to none.

"Wellness at home has been gaining in popularity over recent years so it is wonderful to be able to create a beautiful, calm space in which our customers can soothe away aches and pains and feel connected to nature just a stone’s throw from their door.

"We can’t wait to show Chelsea visitors what our talented team has achieved."

Based on the proportions of the Victorian originals, the shepherd’s hut design blends British heritage with Scandinavian cool and provides a wellness retreat at home.

It's designed as a cosy therapeutic space away from the stresses of modern life, whether tucked away in a peaceful corner of the garden or as an addition to a glamping or hospitality property.

The sauna is handcrafted from the finest sustainable Scandinavian aspen and accommodates up to four people comfortably, the adjoining changing area is clad in tongue-and-groove and features under-bench storage for neatly stowing away possessions.

The Sauna Snug is available as wood-fired for an authentically rustic sauna experience, or electric for modern convenience, and comes with a wooden sauna bucket and ladle and brass outdoor shower for a pre or post-sauna cleanse.

The company has been going for almost a quarter of a century, setting up in 2000 and now operates out of a 15,000 square foot workshop near to Piddlehinton.

It also employs a team of around 40 hut makers, CAD designers, joiners, furniture makers, paint finishers and office team.
