An E-scooter has been confiscated after being ridden in Blandford with a child on it, leading to a warning from police officers.

Dorset Police officers from Blandford's neighbourhood Policing Team seized the scooter under section 165 of the road traffic act after a member of the public was riding it with their child on board.

Officers are keen to remind people that privately owned E-scooters are not road legal and that if stopped officers could impose a fine, hand out penalty points on a driving licence or impound the E-scooter.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Bournemouth and Poole have E-scooters that can be rented as part of a government trial, but there are still licencing guidance and users need to follow the ‘rules of the road’.

"Please do your research before you purchase one of these for yourself or your child, they can be expensive and if used illegally, may be seized by the police.

"I understand some will be happy with us dealing with this issue and some less so, but the fact remains unless the E-scooter being used is a rented E-scooter part of the government trial or there is a change in the legislation, if you use an E-scooter you run the risk of having it seized and we will be actively looking to deal with this issue going forward."
