Three Weymouth B&Bs have been named among some of the best in the UK - with one guesthouse making the top 10 global list.

Trip Advisor, the world’s largest travel guide platform, has revealed its annual Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Hotel Awards.

The awards celebrate the year’s highest rated hotels in the world, according to Trip Advisor’s global travel community.

Gloucester House in Weymouth was named as the eighth best B&B in the world, and third in the UK.

Its owners, Jonathan and Karen Oldroyd, have spent their whole lives working in the hotel business and are ‘delighted’ with the award.

Jonathan said: We were sixth last year, so this is the second year running (in the top 10), and of course we are delighted again.

“We are thrilled as a team to be recognised for all our hard work and the investment we have made in the property in the six years we have been here.”

Jonathan also explained that he and his wife Karen ‘love’ Weymouth and believe it is a ‘fantastic place’ to come.

He added: “We are delighted to be the best of the best, it helps to put Weymouth on the map. We love the town.

“Anything that puts Weymouth onto the global stage is good for all of the B&Bs and other businesses like restaurant pubs and shops - it just adds to Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast as a fantastic place to come to.”

The next guesthouse to make the best of the best list was Oaklands Guesthouse in Weymouth, run by Tim and Teresa Hubble, which came 19th in the UK.

The married couple left Maidenhead in Berkshire in 2017 and ‘ran away to the seaside’ and set up their very own B&B.

Tim said: “It’s brilliant to make the list. We talked about running a B&B for many years, so we sold up and ran away to the seaside.

“The pace of life down here is much slower, people have the time to have a chat and have been so welcoming to us, and that is why I think people keep coming here.”

The third guesthouse to make the prestigious list of best B&Bs in the country is St John’s Guest House.

The hotel is run by Lynne and Andy Fisher and is 23rd on the list and the couple have thanked their customers for leaving them such good reviews.

Lynne said: “We are really chuffed. It is all down to the fact people feel they have a great experience and write us a great review, and we are grateful to our customers for that.”

“When we took over we were quite low down on the Trip Advisor list, but we have worked hard to modernise the property and hone our skills in hospitality."
