A large fire sparked concern in Poundbury residents who could see the blaze from their windows.

Firefighters were called out yesterday at around 9.30pm to a fire near Dorchester Showground, Cokers Frome.

Upon arrival, the fire crew from Dorchester discovered it to be a controlled burn.

One Poundbury resident who could see the flames said: “At first it looked like a bonfire, but then it looked more like a building.”

The firefighters stop message, meaning that no further action was required came in at 9.51pm.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 9.30pm yesterday evening about a fire near Dorchester Showground, Cokers Frome.

“A crew from Dorchester attended the incident and on arrival found a controlled burn. Our stop was in at 9.51pm.”
