A POPULAR Dorset beauty spot has re-opened to the public after it was closed for a week.

The steps down to Durdle Door were unavailable for the past week as rangers worked to restore the stairs.

Lulworth Rangers confirmed last night that the steps had been re-opened and the beach is now accessible.

A spokesperson for Lulworth Rangers said: "We are pleased to announce the steps to Durdle Door Beach are open again for the weekend.

"Thank you to all the visitors who adhered to the notices and barriers which meant we could work without disruption, finishing at 5pm today (Friday, April 26). Enjoy the weekend."

The maintenance work comes after the heavy rainfall this year that has caused the steps to be covered in clay and therefore a danger to visitors.

Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove have also experienced coastal erosion recently since the beginning of the year.
