Dorset passengers faced disruption this morning after a lightning strike damaged a major railway line.
At 5.20am today, Thursday, May 2, National Rail reported that lightning had damaged an electric supply between Westbury in Wiltshire, and Castle Cary in Somerset.
Great Western Railway services from Weymouth to Bristol Temple Meads were affected as well as South Western Railway services between Salisbury and Yeovil Pen Mill have also been affected.
The lines reopened at 6.23am however delays and train cancellations were still expected until 10am.
The lightning strike comes as the Met Office placed a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in the South West of England.
The Environment Agency also issued a flood warning for rivers across Dorset following heavy rainfall.
