YOUNG people moved elderly residents to tears when they refurbished their gardens.
A team of volunteers from the Bovington branch of The Prince's Trust revamped sheltered housing at Bayeux Court in York Road, Dorchester.
They raised more than £700 with collections at Asda stores in Weymouth and Poole and by washing cars at Weymouth Fire Station. The proceeds were used to build a new brick barbecue, pergola, water feature, flowerbeds, seating and revamp a patio.
The unemployed youngsters are undertaking community projects to help get back into education or work.
Team member Helen Littlejohns, 20, of Wey-mouth, said: "We raised the money in one week. The residents came to speak to us and they were really warm and welcoming. When we finished you could see the tears in their eyes. It was unbelievable."
The volunteers were aged 16 to 23.
