ORGANISERS of an event say it was a success - despite only eight people turning up.

Advice being offered at Martinstown Village Hall covered a range of topics from fire safety to tips about benefit entitlement.

Representatives from the police, fire service, Magna Housing and Age Concern all attended the event, which was organised by Dorset County Council.

A slipper exchange was also offered for older people, to swap old slippers with no grips for new safer ones.

PCSO Sarah Pilcher, who attended the event, said: "It went really well.

"We only had eight people turn up, which is a lot better than last time we did this when nobody turned up. Most people who came got new slippers and there were all sorts of leaflets available - from heating your homes to benefits information."

She said it was hoped that more people would attend the event in future.
