FREE swimming for the over-60s and youngsters could become available in Purbeck.
The district council's policy group has backed the idea, but with some councillors expressing reservations.
The question now has to go before the full council meeting which meets on October 14. The policy group heard that the sports centre's committee supported the proposal.
Sports centre manager Terry Peterson had taken a decision - after consulting colleagues at the council - to confirm participation in the scheme for the over-60s before in order to be able to receive grants.
