IT'S time to join the green revolution.

A group of motivated and like-minded citizens in Weymouth and Portland have decided that they must act to tackle climate change and pressures facing the world today.

They have formed a Transition Town group and now they want to spread the word about this exciting new development.

The Transition Town movement looks at the problem of peak oil and what will happen if the price of a barrel of oil makes car use unsustainable and the adoption of new fossil fuel free technologies inevitable.

Communities would have to face life without cheap petrol and diesel and look to ways of becoming more sustainable, with people growing their own food and generating their own power.

Margaret Tidball, one of the group's founding members, has been interested in environmental issues for several years and said it's time for people to think global and act local.' She said: "I suppose Transition Towns are about taking power back into the hands of the people, rather than leaving it to governments. If you have an idea and want to take it forward then it should happen. If we waited for politicians to act we would be here forever. We have to act now to combat global warming."

Weymouth and Portland Transition Town group has organised some events over the past few months.

It is now planning an autumn fayre which aims to raise awareness of its activities as well as raise money to support its aims.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event, which will include stalls, demonstrations, and an auction of promises.

Stalls already booked include a potter, bread maker, organic box scheme, jewellers and cycle maintenance.

Enterprising people from Dorset are also invited to take part.

Stalls for the event will cost £10 for a small one and £20 for a large one.

If you would like to participate or know more about the group contact Margaret Tidball on 01305 786300, Richard Denton-White on 01305 826724 or Peter Jadinge on 01305 826068.

The fayre will be held on Saturday, November 8 at Upwey and Broadwey Memorial Hall, Victoria Avenue, Upwey, from 10am-3pm.
