COMPUTER boffin Shaun Bartlett is going green by revamping his business and cutting down on his fuel bills.

He has introduced remote working at his company SBBIT in Newstead Road, Weymouth.

It means that the IT support company can fix customers' computers by accessing their machines from its own office on broadband links.

Mr Bartlett, 25, said that the move means that staff do not have to physically go out to customers so much, cutting the fuel bills by two- thirds.

He said: "We could see the rising costs and knew we were going to have to do something that pushed us further ahead than everyone else.

"We felt that the environmental side was also important."

Mr Bartlett introduced the remote way of working to mark his first anniversary but also set up a new network of contractors to expand the business nationwide.

He said he had cut the monthly fuel bill from £1,000 down by about two thirds, and down to £240 in one instance.

Ninety per cent of SBBIT's customers are businesses but it also deals with home computer users.

Mr Bartlett estimated that by using the remote system they can fix 90 per cent of problems without having to go out to customers' homes or places of work.

SBBITT offers a range of services, from contracts to one off sessions to fix a problem.

Mr Bartlett said that the company also builds energy-efficient computers and media centres controlling devices such as lighting.
