ANGRY customers are losing patience with a Weymouth business after waiting two months to be refunded for a cancelled steam train journey.

Kingfisher Railtours assured customers a month ago they would be getting their money back and a couple who travelled to North Yorkshire only to find out their train was cancelled have been refunded.

But Margaret Crowther, 63, of Minerva Close, Dorchester – who booked a trip on the Bristol and Avon explorer for her husband Melvyn’s 65th birthday –is still waiting despite phone calls and a letter to the Osmington-based company.

She said: “My husband always said he wanted to go on that trip so I booked it but we received a letter saying the trip was cancelled due to British Rail.

“After many calls when they were engaged I finally spoke to somebody and was told I would get a refund, but I’m still waiting for £348.

“We’ve actually travelled with Kingfisher Railtours before and it was fantastic, but this is hard as again I can’t contact anybody.”

“I would just like to know what’s happening because you feel for other people if they are waiting too.”

The owner of Kingfisher Railtours, Roger Hardingham, said the business has been trying to process refunds for three cancelled trips – the one on the Bristol and Avon Explorer and two journeys in North Yorkshire.

He said: “We’ve paid back an awful lot of people and we are doing the refunds constantly.

“We have to wait for refunds from the train companies to get our money back ourselves and that is one of the main problems.

“There are some people in the North of England who are still waiting for refunds but I did not think there was anybody left to pay down here.”

Mr Hardingham said he was hoping to speak to Mrs Crowther to resolve the problem.
