A TELEVISION star will join the mayor and carnival queen Jamie Asquith to switch on Weymouth’s Christmas lights.

Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Biddall – starring in Beauty And The Beast at the Pavilion – will hit the town for the ceremony on Saturday.

And actor Scott Armstrong will appear as the Beast when the button is pressed and the illuminations burst into life at the Christmas tree in New Bond Street, near Debenhams, at 4pm.

Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism has organised the traditional Yuletide curtain raiser.

The illumination of Weymouth will continue when the Brewers Quay lights are turned on half an hour later at 4.30pm.

At both locations, the lights will be switched on by the Mayor of Weymouth and Portland Tim Munro and the mayor’s escort Alison Cocks, town crier Doris Eastwood, Carnival Queen Jamie Asquith, chamber of commerce president George Afedakis and some of the panto cast.

The Weymouth sea cadet band will lead a procession of vintage cars and the borough council’s land train, beginning from Brewers Quay at 3.15pm.
