A MATURE university student from Weymouth has died after being struck by a train.
Daniel James Palmer, 27, was struck near Penryn station, Cornwall. A spokesman for British Transport Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
Mr Palmer was in the third year of a degree in geography at the University of Exeter’s Tremough campus. A spokesman for the university said: “This was a desperately tragic incident. A book of remembrance has been set up in his name and obviously our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”
The British Transport Police spokesman confirmed that officers are still investigating the circumstances of Mr Palmer’s death and that he was struck by the 9.30pm train travelling from Falmouth docks on the Truro line.
A spokesman for the Cornwall coroner’s office confirmed that an inquest into Mr Palmer’s death had been opened and adjourned.
Mr Palmer leaves behind his mother Susan, father Jim and sister Gemma as well as grandparents Ron and Phyllis Copperthwaite and Jean and George Palmer.
