IT WAS a riot of neon glow sticks and whistles at Weymouth Pavilion as revellers got together for a 90s music revival night in aid of charity.

Organisers are still tallying up the proceeds of the Nostalgia event but hope to have raised up to £2,000 for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

They have pledged to donate the money through the Weldmar and Dorset Echo’s Show Them You Care campaign to raise £60,000 for a community nurse.

Melissa Denton-Allen, who first dreamed up the 90s-themed night, said the event was a huge success and one she hoped to repeat in the summer.

She said: “I don’t think the Pavilion knew what had hit it.

“We were tidying up until about 2am after it had finished and I didn’t get to bed until about 6am. It was really good.

“We’re looking to do another now at the end of the summer.”

Just over 400 revellers headed for Weymouth Pavilion’s Ocean Room in their flashiest 90s gear, many waving neon glow sticks and blowing whistles.

Professional DJs provided a typical 90s soundtrack, including tracks by Prodigy and The KLF, accompanied by a performance by a professional dancer.

The Pavilion rave came to an end at 2am but revellers continued to party at Banus on the seafront afterwards – after being allowed free entry as part of the ticket price for the event.

Melissa added: “Everybody’s fancy dress was absolutely brilliant.

“We had a girl dancing up on the stage and there were plenty of glow sticks and whistles around.

“To be honest it was actually slightly disappointing when it was all over – we had all had such a good night.”

Weymouth-based production company Champagne Videos created a video recording of the event, an edited version of which can be seen at www.dorsetecho.co.uk Copies of the recording will also be sold by event organisers once they are available.

Melissa added that she expecteds the proceeds from the event – including sales of T-shirts, CDs and other goods on the night – to reach between £1,000 and £2,000.
