• AROUND 20 people gathered at Wyke Regis Horticultural Society’s Trading Post headquarters recently for a ‘tips and tasters’ evening.

There were lots of recipe ideas to swap and plenty of taste bud tingling samples, including a beetroot and chocolate cake.

There was also a demonstration of how to make a syrup with primroses.

It was such a successful evening that members hope to do a repeat in the autumn, hopefully featuring predominantly savoury options.

There are even plans afoot to put all the recipes into a small book eventually.

  • THE SOCIETY for the Protection of Markham and Little Francis are holding their AGM on Wednesday, April 22, at Wyke Working Men’s Club, 7pm for 7.30pm start.

Any nominations for the Committee should be with the secretary, Cathrin, (telephone 01305 776151) three days before the AGM takes place.

The society has now been granted charity status which means that anyone who is a tax payer and has donated money can now be registered for Gift Aid. This significantly increases the value of your gift.

A registration form is included in the latest newsletter which can be received by email by mailing markham.littlefrancis@virgin.net or telephoning Sue on 01305 767819 for a form to be sent to you.

You can also keep up to date with news and download a gift aid form from the web site:www.Weymouth.gov.uk/home.asp?sv=1176 Another way Wyke and Lanehouse folk who walk the town green regularly can help the society is by joining in with their wildlife survey.

This involves charting what different animals, birds and insects are seen on the town green and surrounding open space, where and when.

Please contact Cathrin on 01305 776151 or Alf and Mary on 01305 77555 if you would like to take part.

On Easter Sunday morning there will be an Easter egg hunt when you can enjoy a wander over the town green in search of those elusive cardboard Easter eggs which can be exchanged for a proper choccy one before you leave.

  • EASTER raffle tickets are presently on sale at Alfs fish and chip shop at Fiveways to raise money for the programme of outings for local people that John Pearce is organising this summer.

Prizes include £75 worth of jewellery donated by Silver Heaven and a large Easter egg and bottle of champagne donated by Lanehouse Tesco.
