Grandparents are increasingly taking the role of childminders.

Most of us do it with delight but keeping youngsters busy and occupied can be quite a challenge.

How terrific to be able to collect your grandchildren from school and take them for a swim, a great opportunity for them to let off steam and for grandma and grandpa to get some exercise too.

What a shame that in Weymouth and Portland this is an activity beyond the means of many families. I realise that the funds are only there for two years (less than that now I guess?) but isn’t two years’ swimming better than no years’ swimming?

Who knows what may happen in two years. Perhaps in two years, with global warming we will be swimming in the sea all year round!

How many people when offered an unexpected windfall say no?
