Fire and ambulance crews battled to save an elderly man after they were called to a fire in his home.
Neighbours who saw smoke coming from the property alerted the emergency services who found the man collapsed at the scene of the fire in Grange Road, Radipole on Friday night.
Ambulance and fire service personnel attempted to revive the man but were unsuccessful and he was later declared dead.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said that the man is believed to have collapsed before the fire broke out. It is believed that food in the oven caught fire while he was unconscious.
