HOSPITAL staff will compete in a charity football match in memory of a doctor who died in a car crash.

Giles Molyneux had established the Medics Away Foundation before his death last June in a crash near Dorchester.

Now his colleagues at the town hospital where he trained and worked hope to raise funds for the charity he established by playing a ‘porters vs consultants’ football match.

The Medics Away Foundation, the charitable branch of Dr Molyneux’s business Medics Away Ltd, provides support for hospitals and medical facilities overseas.

Dr Molyneux’s father, Graham Proctor, who now helps to run the foundation, said his son would be thrilled to know of the efforts his colleagues are making.

He said: “This is a wonderful tribute to Giles because he had worked at the hospital for six years. He was there throughout his medical training, working in accident and emergency and various posts up to assistant to the managing director.

“He knew just about everybody at the hospital and it came as a great surprise to us to find out just how strongly how many people felt about him.”

Mr Proctor said the porters he has spoken to are confident they will win the match and that his son would love to think of his colleagues running around to raise money for charity.

He said: “Giles was more of an adventurer and rowing was his thing.

“I think he had always liked to sit back and see other people sweating, because he was a natural manager and liked to delegate, so I’m sure this match would have been right up his street.

“Giles was a very competitive sort of person but he would always leave his winnings on the table if you see what I mean.

“He loved his work and the hospital he worked for.”

Mr Proctor said one of the foundation’s next funding projects will be to fund a new computer system for use in a Peruvian hospital.

Tickets for the match, at Dorchester’s Jewson Stadium on Saturday, May 9, are available from the League of Friends shop at the hospital, the porters’ lodge or on match day at the gate.

Tickets are £3 per person or £7 for a family of four but additional donations will be gratefully accepted.
